First-time setup
What you'll do: Sign in, set your device PIN, and save your User Recovery Key so the app is ready and recoverable.
Why it matters: Your User Recovery Key is the only way to restore your account on a new device. Getting setup right now prevents permanent data loss later.
Steps
Install Oten Drive (macOS: open the
.dmg; iOS: install from TestFlight) and open it.Sign in with your Oten account in the login window (Oten IDP).
Create a device PIN and re-enter it to confirm. This unlocks the app on this device only.
On the Recovery Key screen, copy your User Recovery Key and store it somewhere safe. You can't continue until you save it.
Wait a moment while your encrypted environment is created. You'll land on My Drive, ready to use.
Common mistakes
Not actually saving the Recovery Key. Continuing without storing it durably. Put it in a password manager or a physical safe.
Saving the Recovery Key only on the same device. If that device is lost, so is the key. Keep a second copy elsewhere.
Assuming the PIN protects your data. It only gates the app on this device. Your recovery keys are what protect access to your files.
Next: Add & open files, then consider a Vault for anything sensitive.
