Install & Onboarding
Install
macOS: Download Oten Drive from the Oten site (or your workspace's Marketplace) and open the
.dmgto install. The app updates itself in place through Sparkle — you'll be offered Install new version / Remind me later when an update is available.iOS: The app is in final testing and distributed through TestFlight. Ask your Oten administrator for an invitation.
First-time onboarding (new account)
Open Oten Drive and sign in with your Oten account through the login window (Oten IDP).
Set a device PIN. This PIN unlocks the app on this device. It is a local gate only — it does not encrypt your files and is never synced or sent to the server.
Save your User Recovery Key. You'll be shown a recovery key that represents your account identity across devices. Copy it and store it somewhere durable (a password manager or a physical safe) before continuing — it's the only way to restore your account on a new device.
You'll land on My Drive — your everyday encrypted storage, ready to use in Finder (macOS) or the Files app (iOS).
New device, same account
Install and open the app, then sign in with the same Oten account.
When prompted, enter your User Recovery Key to restore your account identity.
The app pulls your vault list automatically. Open each vault (or Drive) with its password to bring the files down and unlock them.
Common mistakes
Not actually saving the User Recovery Key. Tapping past the screen without storing it. Put it in a password manager or a safe — and keep a copy somewhere other than the device you set up on.
Confusing the device PIN with encryption. The PIN only gates the app on one device. Losing it doesn't lose your data; losing your recovery keys does.
Expecting full offline use before first sign-in. Cloud sync, sharing, and workspace features need your Oten account and a network connection at least once.
