Sync & Devices
Q. How does sync work? A. Encrypted blobs sync via Oten Cloud with conflict-aware versioning. Only ciphertext moves — keys and plaintext never leave your device.
Q. Is anything readable during sync? A. No. Sync traffic is ciphertext plus opaque metadata. Zero plaintext leaves the device.
Q. How do I set up a second device? A. Install the app, sign in with the same Oten account, import your User Recovery Key, and the vault list pulls automatically. Open each vault with its password. See Add a new device.
Q. Why aren't my changes showing on another device? A. Check connectivity and that sync is enabled for the vault. Background pulls run silently; a manual pull shows a loading state. Give it a moment after reconnecting.
Q. Can I turn sync off? A. Yes, per vault. Note that key rotation requires sync to be enabled, and other devices won't update while sync is off.
Q. What is "Transfer Drive"? A. Moving or reassigning your Drive to another device or owner, while your Vault data stays isolated. See Transfer a Drive.
Q. Can I share with people on other devices? A. Yes — share files/folders (Drive) or a whole vault with up to 5 recipients, password-protected and expiration-controlled, as Viewer or Editor.
